FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(3-11-2015) GAINESVILLE, Florida – Last year Danny Rowe, Steve Matusek and the entire Agave Underground Tequila Pro Mod team started laying the groundwork for a championship run in the rough-and-tumble world of NHRA Pro Mod. The powerhouse tandem led by world-renowned tuner Jimmy Rector came out swinging at the season-opener in Gainesville last season with Rowe scoring a number-one qualifying effort and streaking to a semifinal round finish while Matusek impressed in his debut behind the wheel of a supercharged doorslammer with a No. 8 qualifying start and second-round appearance.
This year heading into the 46th annual running of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville the Pro Mod powerhouse are ready to build on the foundation they laid in 2014 and kick start a championship season with a big performance at one of drag racing’s most celebrated events.
“I think it’s important for us to get off on the right foot,” says Rowe, checking in from Florida’s Bradenton Motorsports Park where the team spent two days testing prior to departing for Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville. “We’re always battling it out toward the end of the season when the points get tight, but you really want to set the tone early; you want to build some momentum and try to ride it out.
“We’ve seen this J&A Services NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series continue to grow year after year, and I truly believe the competition will be at an all-time high in 2015,” continues Rowe. “So, we’re going to have to stay true to our approach of focusing all our energy on each individual round and make every lap count. We couldn’t be more excited to get out there and let it all hang out – there’s no time for ‘feeling it out’ these days.”
Early this week in Bradenton at the team’s pre-race test session, as well as in mid-February when the group tested at Palm Beach International Raceway, both of the Agave Underground Tequila Pro Mod Camaros performed flawlessly, much to the pleasure of crew chief Jimmy Rector and his veteran drivers.
“These two test sessions were easily amongst the best I’ve ever been a part of, and a great confidence builder heading into what is guaranteed to be an extremely competitive race season,” says Steve Matusek, co-owner and founder of Aeromotive, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of high-performance fuel systems and driver of Danny Rowe Racing’s second Pro Mod Camaro. “We learned a lot, made a string of very good eighth-mile passes with both cars and feel good that we’ll be able to translate that success into a strong outing in Gainesville. Not to mention, we’re just excited – literally chomping at the bit – to go racing. The Gatornationals are a historic race, and even after all these years I’ve been racing it’s still pretty surreal to be a part of such a monumental race. We can’t wait.”
Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek, drivers of the Agave Underground Tequila Pro Mods, will take to the Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville for the 46th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals Friday, March 13, 2015 at 12:00PM EST for the opening round of qualifying. The second round of qualifying will begin at 3:00PM EST. Qualifying will continue on Saturday, March 14, 2015, with a third and final session of qualifying at 2:00PM EST with the opening round of eliminations slated for 5:00PM EST. Final eliminations will continue on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 12:45PM EST.
